The Newborn Session

Documentary-led newborn photography, centred around calm, connection, and the quiet beauty of your baby's earliest days.

The  newborn days pass in a blur.

One moment you're learning their tiny cries and sleepy cuddles. Before you know it, they've changed completely.

These sessions aren't about perfect poses or elaborate props. They're about preserving what this season truly felt like.

No props.

No awkward posing.

No pressure to have everything “just so”.

These sessions are slow, gentle, and entirely baby-led, allowing space for feeding, cuddling, soothing, and simply being together as you are.

Sessions take place in the comfort of your own home, where your baby feels safest and your family can settle into your normal rhythm.

I’ll gently document the moments that matter:

  • Tiny fingers wrapped around yours
  • Feeding, cuddles and quiet comfort
  • The way they fit perfectly in your arms
  • Proud siblings meeting their new baby
  • The little details you'll miss sooner than you expect.

Nothing is rushed.

Nothing is forced.

Just your family, exactly as you are.

When to Book

Newborn sessions are often photographed within the first teo weeks, while your baby is still wonderfully sleepy.

But there are no rules.

Whether your baby is five days or five weeks old, every stage brings something beautiful worth remembering.

I recommend enquiring during pregnancy to secure availability.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is the best time to book a newborn session?

Newborn sessions usually take place within the first 2–6 weeks, but there’s no strict deadline. Because sessions are relaxed and baby-led, slightly older babies are absolutely welcome — especially if you’d prefer a little more sleep, feeding rhythm, or recovery time.

What if my baby doesn’t sleep?

That’s completely okay — and very normal.

These sessions don’t rely on your baby sleeping or being posed. Awake moments, feeding, cuddles, and settling are all part of your story, and often result in the most meaningful images.

Do you pose the baby?

No — I don’t use wrapped or posed setups.

Your baby is photographed naturally in your arms, on the bed, or in their nursery, following their cues at all times. Comfort and safety always come first.

What if my baby needs feeding, changing, or settling during the session?

That’s expected — and never rushed.

Sessions include plenty of time for feeding, changing, and cuddles, with breaks whenever needed. There’s no pressure to “get on with it” — the pace is entirely led by your baby.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do we need to tidy or prepare our home?

No spotless home required.

I’ll guide you to the best light and gently move small things if needed, but your home just needs to feel lived-in and comfortable. The focus is on connection, not perfection.

What should we wear?

Soft, neutral tones work beautifully and help keep the focus on connection.

I’ll send simple outfit guidance before your session, and you don’t need to buy anything new — comfort always comes first, especially in those early days.

Can siblings be included?

Absolutely.

Older siblings are encouraged to be part of the session in a relaxed, playful way — whether that’s cuddles on the bed, reading a book together, or simply being themselves.

What if we’re feeling tired or overwhelmed?

That’s exactly why these sessions are gentle and unposed.

You don’t need to perform or “be on” — I’ll guide you softly and step in only when needed. Many parents tell me the session feels calm and grounding rather than tiring.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a newborn session last?

Sessions typically last around 1.5–2 hours, allowing plenty of time for breaks and a relaxed pace. There’s no strict clock-watching — we move at whatever speed feels right for your family.

What if I’m not feeling confident in front of the camera?

That’s completely normal — especially in the newborn stage.

You don’t need to know how to pose or what to do with your hands. I’ll guide you gently when needed and focus on natural moments of connection, so nothing ever feels forced or awkward.

What if my baby arrives early or later than expected?

When you book a newborn session, we’ll hold a flexible window around your due date rather than a fixed day. We’ll pencil in a provisional date and a backup option, then confirm everything once your baby arrives and you’re ready.  The focus is always on what feels right for you and your baby — not the calendar.

I’m not sure if this is the right fit — what should I do?

That’s completely okay.

If you’re unsure, you’re welcome to get in touch and tell me a little about your family and your baby’s age. I’m always happy to help you decide whether a newborn session or a family session would suit you best.
