There’s something so special about photographing families at home — it’s where the real magic happens. Back in August, I joined a lovely family of four in their cosy cottage near Strathaven to capture their little boy’s first birthday.
The cottage was full of excitement — balloons tied up, presents ready to open, and a homemade cake lovingly baked by Mum, complete with a bright red tractor on top. Tractors were a bit of a theme for the day — a new favourite toy was unwrapped too!
Big sister, aged three, was full of energy and happy to help her little brother open his presents. There were quiet cuddles with Mum and Dad, giggles during playtime, and one of my favourite moments — Mum and Dad flying the kids like aeroplanes around the living room, filling the space with laughter.
After the excitement of presents, it was time for cake. Isaac's face lit up as the candles were blown out and he got stuck in — cake-covered hands, big smiles, and a proud big sister cheering him on.
It was such a lovely reminder that the most meaningful celebrations often happen right at home — surrounded by love, laughter, and a little bit of chaos. These moments tell the story of family life in the most beautiful, honest way.
